Jasmine,

Kourt and I love and think the world of you.  You are a great momma and we are so happy you share your family with us.

Here is a little video I put together with you in mind :)

For the last 5 or so years, Isaac’s Room has taken IKE Questers on a spring break trip to San Francisco for purposeful time together as a family and life enriching experiences (like 10 hour van rides, sailing in the San Francisco Bay, visiting Delancey Street).  We stay at a hostel on the Marin Headlands, a beautiful, wild place with lots of potential for adventures.  Last year we stayed at the same place and spent part of a free day hiking the foothills with my buddy Andrew.  It seems like we may have started a tradition, and this year we brought another friend and hiked even further!

Before you watch the video, I want to tell you a bit about these guys.

I’ve known Andrew his entire life, so I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow up into the young dude he is today.  A few quick hitters, characteristics I think describe him:

  • Open: to try new things like greenish-brown drinks and calamari
  • Creative: he sings in choir and plays the cello
  • Adventurous: he has been on some of my longest, most difficult adventures, including a classic barefoot 8 mile beach hike a couple years ago
  • Loving: friends and family know it (and he used to call me his brother, so I’m family)

I haven’t known Caleb for as long as Andrew, but in the time I have known him he has left a great impression on me.  Not only was he a leader on our hike, helping us safely navigate the terrain and teach us about the wildlife, but he also participated openly and maturely in our IKE group sessions back at the hostel, sharing from his heart, touching everyone in the group.  Cool kid :)

I first met Jeremiah about a year ago.  Since then I’ve watched him climb and jump off a 30 ft tall wood pole at an outdoor ropes course, talked him into an internship at the IKE Box, and watched him turn into a smiley dude.  One of the reasons I enjoy spending time with him is because he is open to challenging himself because he knows the result of challenging yourself is often personal growth.  And grow he has!

Anyway, a couple weeks ago I invited him out for a burrito at Chipotle, so we walked!

Pacific City with Jeremiah, Michael, and Nick.  Boom!

Last week I introduced a little about my theory-in-progress, that life is an adventure, an adventure worth sharing with others.  So I shared Adventure #2 with my long-time friend, Chaz.

Chaz and I quickly became best friends when he moved into the house across the street from me when I was in 3rd grade.  He is a main character is nearly all of my favorite childhood memories-trading basketball cards, my undefeated basketball team beating his undefeated basketball team, playing spy on our neighbors, and listening to Rasheed Wallace’s radio show.  The coolest thing is that after moving across town, going to different schools, and the passing of 20 years, we are still good friends and see each other on a regular basis.

Without further ado, I present Adventure Log #2!  Enjoy.
